Wireless charging accessories fall into two broad shapes: flat pads and upright stands. They cost about the same and use the same technology, but they suit completely different habits. Picking the wrong one is the most common reason people stop using wireless charging altogether.
The short answer
Choose a pad if you charge overnight and never look at the screen. Choose a stand if you charge at a desk and want to see notifications, take video calls or watch something while it charges.
Why the angle matters more than the wattage
Both formats deliver the same power to the same phone. What changes is whether your phone is usable while charging. On a flat pad, checking a message means picking the phone up, which breaks the charging connection. On a stand, the screen faces you at roughly 60 degrees, so notifications, Face ID and video calls all work while the phone stays put.
For a desk, that difference adds up over a workday. For a nightstand, it is irrelevant.
Alignment: the hidden difference
Wireless charging only works when the coil in your phone lines up with the coil in the charger. On a flat pad, a phone knocked slightly out of position stops charging silently — you find out in the morning. Magnetic alignment solves this: the phone snaps into the correct position and cannot drift.
If you have ever woken up to a dead phone that was sitting on the charger all night, magnetic alignment is worth paying for.
Multi-device: where stands pull ahead
If you own a smartwatch and wireless earbuds alongside your phone, a 3-in-1 stand charges all three from one wall outlet. Three separate pads mean three cables and three outlets. Foldable versions collapse flat for travel, which matters if you move between home and office.
Our Foldable 3-in-1 Charging Station is built for exactly this case.
What about charging speed?
Wattage ratings are often misleading. A charger advertised at 15W only delivers 15W if three conditions are met: your phone supports it, the power adapter you plug in supports it, and the case between the phone and the charger is thin enough. Thick or metal-backed cases cut charging speed dramatically or block it entirely.
Note that most wireless chargers, including ours, ship without a wall adapter. Check what you already own before assuming you need to buy one.
